Prior to joining the private sector, Brynt served nearly 25 years in the U.S. Army rising to the rank of colonel. During his time in uniform, he served in a wide variety of positions to include 39 months in Iraq where he earned the Combat Infantry Badge and three bronze stars. After leaving the Army, Brynt was a partner for BMNT, a technology consulting firm; a Science & Technology Policy Fellow for the U.S. Department of Energy; a Co-Founder of Call Sign Coffee; and a Co-Founder and Director of Workforce Development, Education, and Training for NextFlex, a National Manufacturing Innovation Institute. He is currently the Senior Director of Military & STEM for Walmart. In 2017, he was appointed as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and also serves as a Board Member for the National Science Foundation project on the Future of Work.
